Some context behind the cancellation of some Saturday class

As you may have heard, there was just a cancellation of some Saturday swim classes by SF Rec Park. That's frustrating -- but, hold on! We have some context with good news.

We expect there's actually a big win behind the change. SF Rec & Park has been listening to SF Kids Swim's advocacy and the recently collected Aquatics Survey, including one of our most frequent requests for more swimming access on the weekend, especially on Sundays. Again this is related to offering swimming on SUNDAYS!

It's annoying that the Saturday cancellation wasn't communicated well. But SF Rec & Park has expressed to us that they are dedicated to serving the public intentionally with limited resources, and have been working hard to bring Sundays to two pools so that public swim is now available 7 days a week somewhere in the city. The loss of classes appears to be temporary. They’ve said they are working on bringing some classes back right away, and the class levels will be fully back in the Winter taking place on Sundays and Mondays instead of Fridays and Saturdays.

We are excited to see so many parents speak up about public pools, and invite you to come to our meeting on Thursday to discuss the new changes and other improvements you'd like to see.

Please email [email protected] to be added to the attendee list.

Thanks
